Our Partners & Supporters
As they say, it takes a village. We are incredibly grateful for our partners and supporters, from government and community organizations to local businesses.
Feature Partner
Sunriver Community Gardens
Gardeners at Sooke’s Sunriver Community Gardens have been growing food for the broader community since the allotment garden began in 2010. Since 2021, the Grow for Sooke initiative has donated thousands of pounds of fresh, locally grown produce to Sooke Meals on Wheels.
Each spring volunteers weed and seed, plant and transplant, and weed some more! The District of Sooke provided a grant to expand our potato growing area. And an external foundation provided a substantial grant to refurbish the greenhouse dedicated to Grow for Sooke and further expand our dedicated growing area. We’re aiming to produce over 1000lbs. of potatoes this year, as well as other crops, including a greenhouse full of tomatoes.
By July, Sunriver Community Gardens is delivering fresh vegetables to Meals on Wheels once or twice per week, well into autumn. Volunteer gardeners are happy to support Sooke’s Meals on Wheels program.
Feature Partner
Sooke Food Bank
Sooke Food Bank provides food and household supplies, plus access to healthcare and other services, to Sooke residents in need. Sooke Food Bank supports MOW with food donations, sharing of storage space, and cash contributions towards meal subsidies for their clients.
“The Sooke Food Bank and Sooke Meals on Wheels have a beautiful relationship. Both groups are passionate about easy, simple access to healthy food. When a food bank client can no longer cook for themselves, we are happy to recommend and even financially support our client’s transition to MOW. We find this program to be a great help to seniors or shut-ins, living independently for as long as possible. The food is delicious and the volunteers are friendly and passionate about their work. Meals on Wheels are an incredible group that work tirelessly to maintain a core service in Sooke.”
